Her name and face may not yet be familiar to the majority of the population, but former model and up-and-coming actress Tricia Helfer seems to have been destined for superstardom ever since she won Ford's Supermodel of the Year contest in the early '90s. It's still too early to tell if she'll be as successful as a thespian, as she was strutting the catwalks and gracing the pages of the top fashion mags.

Tricia was raised on her family's grain farm in rural Alberta, Canada. Raised without a TV, she never got to see the original Battlestar Galactica that her current acting gig derives from. Life in a small, tight-knit community has helped Tricia remain humble, and she cites her family members as having had the biggest influence on her. Patience and persistence are two of her strongest personality traits.
Finding it difficult to juggle two careers, Tricia left modeling to concentrate on the more self-expressive of the two. Given time and some more decent roles, Helfer may well prove herself as a formidable actress. She's gotten the chance to display her budding talent to a wider audience playing a model on an episode of CSI and portraying another model-turned-actress, Farrah Fawcett. Her role as a deadly, sexy cyborg has given her the opportunity to stretch her talents even further.

Tricia's modeling career erupted in 1992 when the then 18-year-old won the Ford Supermodel of the World contest. She quickly rose to the top of the fashion game, appearing in major campaigns for Giorgio Armani, Saks Fifth Avenue and Victoria's Secret, to name but a few. She has appeared at shows for designers such as Oscar de la Renta, Claude Montana, Salvatore Ferragamo, Christian Dior, Givenchy, and Pierre Balmain. Helfer has also made the covers of fashion magazines like Elle (1993), Amica Italia (1996) and Cosmopolitan UK (1998).
Tricia's rise in the world of acting hasn't been as rapid as her ascent through the ranks of the modeling business was. There have been some bright spots, such as the Battlestar Galactica miniseries, which premiered in 2003 to become the Sci Fi channel's third-most-watched program in their history. Her portrayal of Farrah Fawcett in the 2004 TV movie Behind The Camera: the Unauthorized Story of 'Charlie's Angels' may not have achieved equally impressive ratings, but it gave Tricia the opportunity to recreate the classic '70s Farrah poster, which hung in the bedrooms of thousands of males back in the day.
